Pre-Diabetes Life Insurance

You may have found it difficult to secure life insurance with Pre-Diabetes Life Insurance. But rest assured, The Insurance Surgery has over 25 years of experience finding suitable policies for our clients.

What Is Pre-Diabetes Life Insurance?

If you have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, it is possible for you to obtain life insurance. However you will find that some providers are better than others in terms of providing life insurance cover.  Pre-diabetes life insurance works very similarly to type 2 diabetes life insurance. This is due to the fact that insurers generally do not differentiate between the two conditions. They are very closely linked.

There are factors that you will need to consider if you have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes and would like to take out Life Insurance. It is possible that your application for pre-diabetes life insurance will require further information. This may be a medical screening, medical exam, GP Report or telephone medical depending on severity and insurance provider.

In recent years it is possible to be accepted online for some less severe cases. This is thanks to medical advances and improvements in life insurance underwriting for pre-diabetes.

Those with severe coarctation of the aorta usually require surgery, although this will depend on their age and overall health. The required procedure is one that widens the aorta, known as an angioplasty procedure.

If you have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, the cover that you can get depends on a number of health and medical factors. This is to determine how high-risk you are. There are a few things that insurers may need to know when you apply for life insurance, these include:

Hba1c reading

Date of diagnosis

Blood pressure

Cholesterol level

Height/weight (BMI)

Any other medical conditions

Here at The Insurance Surgery we are leading life insurance experts for pre-diabetes. We specialise in a number of other pre-existing medical conditions. Our expert advisors will be able to help guide you to find the best life insurance companies and policies.

We understand that each case is unique and will find one to suit your medical and personal circumstances. We want to leave you with peace of mind that your family is protected should the worst happen.

Pre-Diabetes Critical Illness Cover

Pre-diabetes critical illness cover has only become available again recently. It is still only available through a small selection of insurance providers.

Some providers will offer pre-diabetes critical illness cover with no medical exclusions. However you should expect to pay a higher premium and some will offer critical illness cover with some exclusions e.g. cardiovascular related conditions.

Most applications for pre-diabetes critical illness cover will require medical information. This could be a medical screening, GP Report or a telephone medical appointment to support your application.

Some reasons why your pre-diabetes critical illness cover application may be declined are:

Hba1c levels too high (e.g. above 8.0)

Diabetes complications (e.g. Retinopathy, Neuropathy or Nephropathy)

Currently pre-diabetes critical illness Cover is available to a relatively small percentage of applications. This is where there are no major related medical issues. Life Insurance providers are constantly developing their underwriting. The Insurance Surgery works with a number of major insurance providers to improve products/underwriting.

Pre-Diabetes Income Protection

Income protection for pre-diabetes can be obtained and we do see a small number of applications accepted. However, underwriting is similar to critical illness cover. In all cases we see, there is a high loading to the premiums and some applications are offered with medical exclusions. This is also similar to critical illness cover underwriting.

As well, income protection for Pre-diabetes is only available for people with no Diabetes related complications (e.g. Retinopathy, Neuropathy or Nephropathy), controlled Hba1c levels (usually below 8.0) or for non-smokers.

Coarctation of the Aorta life insurance

Underwriters assessing life insurance for those with coarctation of the aorta will consider the following:

Underwriting for professional football players seeking life insurance cover will depend on the following factors. Insurers may request more details on the following:

Your age

Your current weight and lifestyle

The date of your initial diagnosis

Any other associated health conditions such as heart attack or stroke

Associated congenital conditions such as heart disease

Whether you have high blood pressure

Whether you have had surgery for coarctation of the aorta

Whether you smoke

The impact your condition has on your job

Following these considerations, an insurer will normally be able to inform you of the kind of policy you will be eligible for based on your circumstances.

Generally speaking, if you have coarctation of the aorta but your symptoms do not require treatment and you have never been in hospital for surgery as a result of your condition, you should be eligible for a ‘non-rated’ life insurance policy.

However, if you have had an angioplasty procedure to correct your condition, and you are suffering from symptoms in line with it, you may be considered a higher risk for life insurance, and could pay a higher premium than someone with no symptoms. An insurer will likely request medical records from your doctor to confirm your details and to offer you the best policy available.

At The Insurance Surgery, we have helped many people find the right coarctation of the aorta life insurance cover for their needs. Ratings for an individual seeking life insurance with coarctation of the aorta can vary depending on their individual circumstances, so it is important that you approach the right insurance provider that understands the nature of your condition.

If you’re the primary breadwinner or share financial responsibilities, a life insurance policy can help your family maintain their standard of living in the unfortunate event that you’re no longer around to support them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get Life Insurance for Pre-Diabetes?

In general, life insurance for pre-diabetes is very possible to obtain. However certain medical or health issues may make the cover more expensive or even lead to your application being declined. Some of the main reasons that pre-diabetes life insurance may be difficult or expensive to obtain are:

High BMI

Being a smoker

Poor control (High Hba1c, blood pressure and/or cholesterol)

Diabetes related medical issues (e.g. Neuropathy, retinopathy or Nephopathy)

However, pre-diabetes life insurance underwriting is constantly evolving and improving and has become more lenient and inclusive in recent years. We are pioneering for inclusivity in the insurance sector. We are constantly campaigning for better cover for people with pre-existing medical conditions.

There are a couple of providers who may be able to offer critical illness cover for pre-diabetics. However the underwriting is quite restrictive. Therefore it is generally only possible to get critical illness cover if your condition is very well controlled. The industry is always evolving and therefore it is worth checking if you can obtain critical illness cover each year.

Pre-diabetic income protection is very similar to critical illness cover as it is possible, but very difficult to obtain. If you do manage to get income protection, there is a very high chance that you will have to pay extremely loaded premiums. This may work out quite expensive. Certain medical conditions may also be excluded from your cover.

In general you will have to pay more than standard rates for your cover. It will range from a 50% loading to a decline, depending on the additional medical conditions, diabetic complications and the control of your condition.

Managing to improve your control and having a better Hba1c reading or decreasing your BMI can always be positive. If you manage to lose weight or make improvements to your blood sugar levels, it is always worth getting in touch. We can review your policy as there is a chance that your premiums may go down.

However, if your diabetes gets worse then your premiums will not increase as they stay the same throughout the policy. This means that you do not have to worry about how your condition affects your policy as you age.
